Mysterious bodies and haunted minds

Eleven members of the same family were found mysteriously dead in a house in the Indian capital, Delhi. The bodies have been found in such a mysterious state and the manner of their death is so strange that it may be the most isolated case of its kind for the Delhi Police.

Police detectives, forensic experts, sociologists, psychiatrists and neurologists are trying to get to the bottom of the case. Every day, there are aspects that link up before the night of mass death. But the matter remains a mystery. The only thing that still makes sense is that all the members of the Bhatia family committed suicide voluntarily due to superstition. Police have questioned a female tantric practitioner.

The Bhatia family committed this mass suicide in a very organized, quiet and normal way of life. Each member of the family was given separate responsibilities for bringing suicide equipment and preparing for the pre-pooja. In one footage, a minor girl is seen fetching four plastic stools from the bazaar, which she later used to commit suicide. Everyone was happy to commit suicide. Because he was going to perform this 'ritual' of suicide not for death but for a new and better beginning of life. Little did they know that they were going to die for their own superstitions.

Gopal Das, an elder of the Bhatia family, died 11 years ago. His youngest son Lalit Bhatia went into depression and a few days later he felt that his father's soul often dissolved in his body and he would speak randomly and indifferently in his voice. Surrounded by superstitions, the Bhatia family gradually came to believe that their father's soul really entered Lalit and instructed them on what to do for a better and purer life. It was Lalit who prepared the whole family for mass suicide.

According to the police investigation, Lalit had said that when he was hanged, God would take him out of there and lead him to a better life. There was no mention of death anywhere in the process.

Psychiatrists say that if the superstitions become too strong, they become a mental illness. According to him, Lalit was not only mentally ill but the whole family was in a state of semi-mental illness. It is learned that Lalit used to watch serials based on ghosts, demons and superstitions a lot.

Indian society is traditionally religious and is steeped in all sorts of superstitions. Indian channels are fanning the flames of superstition and outdated religious notions to expand their audience. In the prime time, there are programs of Babas and Sadhus on big TV channels which are spreading unscientific ideology. Many channels are run by Baba himself and his religious institutions. There was a time when superstitions and outdated ideas were challenged at the governmental level and scientific ideas were promoted. Today, accepted scientific ideas are being challenged. Rationalism is interpreted as anti-religious and irreligious. Indian society is currently under pressure. This situation is very conducive to the promotion of superstition and unscientific thinking.

Superstition does not always lead to mass suicide, but it does harm the individual and society in the long run. Superstition and unscientific thinking push the new generation away from the path of imagination and curiosity, and they begin to find the solution to every question in religious concepts and beliefs that have nothing to do with the realities of life.
